THE PROPHET OF SUSTAINABLE PROFIT
Richard Sandor is a hero. The people whose lives he is saving are not born yet. He is one of the caretakers and saviors of our children and our grandchildren. As CEO and founder of Environmental Financial Products based in Chicago, he is addressing global warming by making it profitable for companies to cut pollution. His first step is to create a market in permits to emit greenhouse gases. Companies would basically have to pay for the right to pollute, which Sandor estimates would establish a market that would amount to hundreds of billions of dollars a year. This is not just another great idea with no follow-through. So far, two dozen major U.S. companies including Ford, DuPont and American Electric Power, plus five Mexican and Canadian firms, along with Chicago and Mexico City have been involved and are planning to participate, pending further negotiations. The business vehicle through which these efforts are being made is a trading forum called the Chicago Climate Exchange, which is modeled after the largest and most successful experiment to date involving pollution permits. This was reported in Time, August 26, 2002, in a special report entitled "How to Save the Earth". Consider that there are many others like Richard Sandor that we will never hear about. Dedicated people quietly going about their Gandhi and Mother Theresa-like activities of saving the world. Brilliant, inspired work of healing is occurring all over the planet right now. Your belief in these heroes makes them stronger.
